Démarche artistique / Artistic Statement

Val once attended a demonstration where the guest artist did not bring paints, brushes or a new canvas to work on. Instead he simply asked us for a discussion.

His question to us all was “What is Art?’

All artists have their own definition of art. It is very personal and hard to describe in words but can be seen through the emotion in their paintings, sculptures. mosaics etc.

Val sees art as a lifelong journey similar to a road road with many side roads along the way. Her roads have taken her through landscapes, portrait and animal painting.

Val’s informal education has been influenced by great educators and painters in the field of art.
Val started her art journey as a decorative artist many years ago. She was fortunate enough to have David Jansen as an art instructor that taught the basic principles art, design, perspective, value and hue, and colour theory. She has taken course with Russian masters of Palechk painting. It is detailed and whimsical and influences the details in her landscapes, animals and portrait paintings. Val’s portraits have been influenced by the teachings of Steven Rosetti and her landscape paintings are influenced by Nathalie Freniere.
